The NFL MVP debate is always heated, and this year, it’s especially intense with two standout quarterbacks in the mix: Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. Both have had incredible seasons, each bringing something unique to the table that not only defines their teams but also elevates the game as a whole. Jackson, known for his explosive athleticism and ability to make plays with both his arm and his legs, continues to leave fans in awe week after week. On the other hand, Allen has proven to be a powerhouse, with a cannon of an arm and a knack for improvising in clutch situations. As the season heads into its final stretch, the question remains: who truly deserves the MVP title? This article will dive into the stats, key performances, and the impact each quarterback has had on their team’s success, ultimately making the case for both as worthy candidates for the coveted award.
The Pass Game:
When it comes to Lamar Jackson, for a long tie the focus has always been (and for good reason) on his extreme talent at running the football. Nowadays, he’s evolved so much as a passer, some would argue that this is the best version of the 2x MVP we’ve EVER seen! When comparing the 2, Lamar Jackson sweeps Josh Allen in the stat categories with more passing yards, TDs, less interceptions, and a higher completion percentage.
Stats (2024): Lamar Jackson – Josh Allen
Completion %
66.7 – 63.6
Pass Yds
4,172 – 3,731
Pass TDs
41 – 28
Interceptions
4 – 6
This is the best version of Lamar Jackson we have EVER seen through the air and he completely trumps Josh Allen in every major passing statistical category.
Edge: Lamar Jackson
The Run Game:
The running game is a little closer. While Lamar Jackson has the lead on rush yards, Allen has triple Jackson’s rushing touchdowns. However, it’s a little closer than you may think as you can’t forget that despite having over 4k passing yards, Lamar still ran for 900+ on the ground, breaking Michael Vick’s all-time record for the most rushing yards by a QB. Josh Allen, being the more redzone used runner, has the clear edge on TDs. Here are the side by side stats:
Lamar Jackson vs. Josh Allen rushing stats:
Rush Yds

Overall Stats:

Total Touchdowns

Josh Allen and the Bills have had a terrific season, with Allen at the helm, the Bills have charged to a 13-4 regular season record. However, I’m a believer in Wins only being partially on the Quarterback and with only a single win, and seed in between Allen and Jackson, it’s not nearly enough to convince me that it means more than over 800 more yards, and 5 more touchdowns.
Edge: Lamar Jackson
While Josh Allen has had a terrific season this year, and has led the Bills to an outstanding season, there is without a doubt who the better Quarterback is. Jackson, the reigning MVP may have to fight off Voters Fatigue, but a win over Allen on Sunday could give him the boost he needs as we go into what shouldn’t be (but is) a very tight MVP race. If I had a vote, it would be with the first ever guy to have 4k passing yards and 800+ rushing yards in a season, the all-time leading rusher at the QB position, the first reigning MVP to throw for over 40 touchdowns, and the 2x MVP and 2024-2025 First-Team All-Pro, Lamar Jackson. The Ravens are rolling and it’s all thanks to the continued growth and emergence by Jackson at the age of 28. Will we see Jackson win MVP number 3? Only time will tell. But, in the words of Jackson himself:
“But I rather would have been in the Super Bowl than accepting the award…Hopefully if it comes up again and I’m nominated again, hopefully we’ll be in the Super Bowl and playing”
